Tough Decisions To Be Made

29 02 2008

Well its been a crazy couple weeks for me and my family up here in New York. Well for those who don’t know Gm offered a buyout for me of a cash payment to walk away cold turkey. You know if you look at the surface one hundred and forty thousand looks like a lot of money. But after I did some looking into it thats not that much after taxes and figuring that I would need to find a job comparable in wages and benefits. I think the worst hit we would take is on health insurance. After a lot of thought I think it will be better to ride this train a little longer. Trust me this has not been a popular decisions for my family who would like to move back to Maryland. All I can say to that is trust me that I will do the right thing for the whole family and will do what it takes to make sure they are taken care of.

So where I’m at is the following, one of my core thoughts was a Drywall Company. With that money it would make it easy to start something going. But that choices has major risks also. I’m really experienced in the doing of the work, but the business end I’m not so good with and for me to make this work I need some education in my opinion. Plus at this time the economy is in the dumps, new building has been dramatically slashed. I imagine any work out there has produced feeding frenzy’s from existing companies. I really dont think its the right time to hit this market.

My second thinking is I love computers and think there is a huge field in network administration and programming. The idea of getting paid to sit on a computer and install and maintain networks is also very appealing. Once again education is needed. So I think the no brain thing is I need to start with some education. I’m really mad at myself though because GM has offered me tuition reimbursement all this time and I never took advantage of it.

So I know things are changing I will probably only stay at my current wage at Gm for another four years. The next contract I think I will be on the chopping block. Which is ok at that point it will give me time to take classes and prepare for our future. At that time this buyout will come out or a buydown. All I can say is that I’m energized and ready to take the bull by the horns and ready to do some battle. In that four years I will have accrued another four years service toward my pensions and in the mean time our 401k keeps getting bigger.

So in my opinion the risk far out base the positives. I’m really sorry for anyone that feels that I’m being selfish In my decisions I really am trying to do the right thing and all I can say is trust me because I refuse for Gm to just kick me to the side

Verizon Let Go Of Our Phones

5 02 2008

This is article Iv’e been wanting to write for a while. The setup we have for mobile phones is ridiculous for the United States. The current business model is archaic and needs to be changed. I understand how we got here, but times have changed. When cell phones came out the wireless companies wanted to get as many people with phones as they could, so they heavily subsidized the phones and got you on the monthly bill. At that time it was a challenge to convince people that they needed a mobile phone. But obviously that is not the case today. So this brings me to the topic why does Verizon think it can start charging premium prices for there phones at the same time locking phone features down on your phone that you just paid full price. In addition, to add insult to injury they also want to charge premium rates for there call plans.

For example look at the LG Voyager, if you buy it you will pay a hefty three hundred and fifty dollars to purchase the phone. Now with that premium price Verizon also takes the liberty to lock many features down such as WI FI. What is laughable is that Verzion thinks this is there answer to the I-Phones HA!!! Not even close guys plus ATT allows you to use WI-fi. If you want my opinion anybody on Verizion or the other carriers should stay in a holding pattern things are about to get interesting. Verizon is definatly feeling the pressure from the I-Phone. With google looking to get into the business look out people we are about to see major changes in this market. Just last week Garmin announced a new phone which is a real competitor, it didn’t say who was the carrier. So if your looking to get a new phone I would wait to see what happens do not renew just yet

Got To Love An Upset

4 02 2008

Well I got to say that was one of the most exciting games I have seen in a long while. Talk about an upset, but you have to be honest the Giants played New England hard. I mean look how often either Brady was sacked or on the run. It couldn’t happen to a better team. The arrogance of this team was unbelievable between the coach or the Mr. Hollywood quarterback. I mean Brady went so far to say that he wasn’t worried about his foot because he never has to run when hes in the pocket. Well guess what he was certainly scurrying around a lot Sunday night when he wasn’t being put on hiss ass by the Giant’s defense. Secondly, Mr. Belecheck what kind bullshit review was that on the player leaving the field. I got two words for you ” YOU SUCK”. Well it didn’t work and the Patriots messed that chance up too. But what truly made my night was seeing coach Belecheck squirming on camera during post game interviews. Well its like they say “ANY GIVEN SUNDAY”

Well now its time to look forward to next year and hopefully the Ravens can do better. But it was fun game to watch even though neither me or Kell hit on our squares. Good Night from Buffalo
